For campus staff, your roles are varied and multiple. This page provides a starting point for you to engage in internationalization activities at KU.
Why Engage with Internationalization at KU?
As a KU staff member, you have opportunities to participate in the activities of an internationalized institution and develop your own competencies, contribute to the internationalization of student experiences, and support the continued enhancement of the internationalization of the teaching, research, and service mission of the institution.
Every unit on campus is charged to incorporate internationalization as a core foundation of their Jayhawks Rising strategic plan. By engaging with others within your unit, you can encourage utilization of the Internationalization Toolkit as part of the planning in your unit.
Key Questions to Consider
- How is internationalization part of the plan for your unit?
- How does your role intersect with Internationalizing the Student Experience, International Partnerships, or International Research and Program Development?
Recommended Actions
- Encourage use of the Internationalization Toolbox by unit-level leadership, staff and student employees, faculty, and researchers.
- Look for opportunities from professional societies in your field to learn more about how to internationalize the work that you do. For example, NASPA has an International Education Knowledge community, and ACPA has a Commission for Global Dimensions of Student Development. Check out what initiatives your professional association may have and learn more.
- Take advantage of campus opportunities to enhance your intercultural knowledge and skills, including resources from Human Resources, the Center for Service Learning, globally-oriented campus events, festivals and fairs, and globally focused seminars and panel discussions, or learn a language.
- Promote international opportunities for students.
- Subscribe to the KUIA newsletter for reports on our progress and work.
